Dr. Elisa Fiume from Politecnico di Torino at FunGlass
We were happy to host Dr. Elisa Fiume, Assistant Professor at Department of Applied Science and Technology, Politecnico di Torino, Italy. Politecnico di Torino was the first Italian Engineering School, founded in the wave of the technical and scientific innovation that gave rise to the most prestigious European polytechnic schools in the mid-19th century. With 38,700 students and more than 1,000 teachers, the Politecnico is ranked among the best European technical universities for education and research
On March 13- 15, Dr. Elisa Fiume gave a set of lectures on the topic Bioactive Glasses (BGs) and Bioceramics: Design and Properties Towards Clinical Applications:
- Lecture 1: Inside the human body: along the periodic table to discover the therapeutic potential of BGs
- Bioactive glasses and bioceramics: a glance at current dentistry and orthopaedics applications
- Bioactive glass scaffolds as clinical products: (still) an open challenge
The lectures were focused on the educational explanation of basic facts, but they also represented innovative approaches and solutions in the given field. Most of the results and used sources were the scientific output of researchers from Politecnico di Torino. An interesting and useful discussion took place after the lectures. During Dr. Fiume´s stay, she visited most of the laboratories of the FunGlass center, exchanged experiences with our researchers and discussed possible cooperation. We look forward to further visit and collaboration.
