Dušan Galusek Delivers Lecture on Glass and Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria at Vedatour Event

On May 22, 2024, the director of the FunGlass Centre, Dušan Galusek, delivered an engaging lecture at Elektrárňa Piešťany to a full audience. His talk, titled “Can Glass Help Us Against Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria?” was part of the Vedatour S4E7 event, which belongs to a series of lectures by leading Slovak scientists within the Vedátor project, aimed at popularising science.

That evening Dušan first introduced his workplace FunGlass centre, its history, the people they work with and their research areas. In the main part of his presentation, he explained what antibiotic resistance in bacteria is, how it arises and how we can use glass as a biomaterial to fight it. For example, by releasing bacteria-fighting ions inside the body. He ended the lecture by talking about other biomaterials and their applications.

Apart from him, other speakers were anthropologist Klaudia Kyselicová from the Academic Centre for Autism Research at the Faculty of Medicine of Comenius University and Samo Kováčik from the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics of Comenius University.
