Lecturer from the University of the West Indies at FunGlass
Venkateswara Rao Penugonda, M.Sc, M.Phil, Ph.D. Physics lecturer from the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus, Jamaica has been visiting the FunGlass Centre from July 3 to August 27, 2018 under the SAIA, National Scholarship Programme (NSP). Dr Penugonda’s general research interests are in dielectric, thermo luminescence, non-linear optics, specifically in bismuth borate, tellurite and bioactive glasses. He is having 22 years of teaching experience in different countries, India, Ethiopia, USA, Jamaica and having 18 years research experience on Glass materials. Dr. Rao has published one book chapter and 25 research articles on Glass and Glass-Ceramic materials in reputed peer reviewed international journals having 191 citations. He is the reviewer of the 10 international journals and having a collaborative research with the 9 countries.
Dr. Venkateswara Rao’s current research at the FunGlass is on bismuth borate, tellurite glasses doped with some transition metal ions. These glasses have low phonon energy, a high linear and non-linear refractive index, and it also can be used in photorefractive materials, non-linear devices, up-conversion lasers and optical amplifiers. Dr. Penugonda expresses his deepest thanks to the SAIA, NSP for the project proposal approved, Prof. Dusan Galusek the director of the FunGlass Centre gave the permission to conduct the research under the supervision of Dr. Robert Klement.
