The announcement of a public procurement for CEGLASS project
On April 28, 2020, the Center for Functional and Surface-Functionalized Glasses at Alexander Dubček University of Trenčín reached an important milestone in the process of implementing the CEGLASS (Centre for Functional and Surface Functionalized Glass, ITMS code 313011R453) realized within the Operational Program Research and Innovation of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic. The announcement of a public procurement for a substantial expansion of the scientific research infrastructure of the FunGlass Center means a long-awaited shift to the second phase of this project, which is associated with the reconstruction of premises, laboratories and the completion of high-quality research equipment.
The project called the Center for Functional and Surface Functionalized Glass “CEGLASS” envisages the procurement of almost forty facilities (7 million euros), which will complement the current technical equipment of the Center, such as for example Test equipment for surface treatment of glass in pilot conditions, Equipment for culturing cells with a controlled atmosphere, or X-ray diffractometer for characterization of thin films. The selection of planned instruments was subject to a thorough mapping of the existing research infrastructure allocated in the FunGlass Center, as well as with foreign partners of our largest project “FunGlass” (CSIC Madrid, FAU Erlangen-Nurnberg, FSU Jena and University in Padua). The subsequent definition of new facilities was conditioned by the establishment of a wider range of research focus in the field of glass in the Center, but also by the mutual use of this infrastructure within the consortium. This means that the new devices will be able to be used for research purposes not only by researchers and doctoral students of FunGlass, but also by colleagues from partner (or other domestic and foreign) institutions.
The new modern infrastructure thus opens up space for the University of Trenčín to increase the quality of materials research, to obtain new scientific results and at the same time create opportunities for more intensive involvement in major international projects with foreign academic and industrial partners.
We believe that by successfully acquiring a new instrument infrastructure, the research carried out by the scientists of the FunGlass Center will be a valuable contribution to top science in the field of glass sciences and technologies on an international scale. The University of Trenčín will thus confirm its place and competitive ability among recognized European research institutions.
The CEGLASS project (10.5 million euros) is a complementary project to the H2020 project “FunGlass” (2017-2024). The contract for this project was signed by the University of Trenčín Alexander Dubček in Trenčín with the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sports of the Slovak Republic in April 2019. Part of the funds (approx. 1.5 million euros) is intended to strengthen staff capacity and administrative support for the project.
