Melting and experiments with glass in Archeopark Hanušovice, Slovakia
On 24 and 25 July Prof. Dušan Galusek, Dr. Dagmar Galusková, Dr. Aleksandra Nowicka and Dr. Branislav Hruška participated in the 4th interdisciplinary conference- History of Glass 2020 in Hanušovice nad Topľou. It was organized by the Regional Museum in Prešov – Kaštieľ and the Archeopark in Hanušovce nad Topľou, the Slovak Archaeological Society – HS Commission, FunGlass – TnUAD and the Slovak Glass Society.
This event was also intended for those who do not deal with historical glass, but have found glass (archaeologists) or want to draw attention to historical glass (museum curators) or another area associated with historical glass (e.g. ethnographers, musicians).
The conference included workshops and experiments for professionals and the public with demonstrations of glass technology and work with historical glass: melting of historical glass comes from original raw materials in a replica of glass furnace from the 9th-century, the production of sodium bars and ash glass, and the colouring of glass.
One of the goals of this event was to promote the study of chemistry and physics for children in an experiential and fun way.
