What to do if you are positive for Covid-19 or you have been in close contact

A COVID-19 positive person

 Epidemiological measures currently in force: A disease positive person is a person who has been notified of a positive test result from the time the positive test result is reported until the time the isolation is completed. By law, all persons positive for the disease are ordered to be isolated. Isolation lasts for 14 days from the date of sampling of the biological material with a positive result, provided that the person has not shown any of the clinical signs of the disease during the last three days of that period. If, during the last three days of 14 days, a person has experienced any of the clinical signs of the disease, the isolation shall not be terminated until the person positive for the disease has been assessed by his General Practitioner (doctor) as fit to terminate the isolation.

In the period from the sampling of biological material for the purposes of the test until the announcement of a positive test result, the person is obliged to limit contact with other persons and observe strict hand hygiene and the obligation to cover the upper respiratory tract.

 After announcing a positive test result, the person is ordered to:

  • adhere to insulation,
  • stay during isolation only at the place of isolation,
  • prevent physical contact with other persons,
  • observe strict hand hygiene and wearing of drapes,
  • observe the prohibition on meeting other persons, with the exception of persons who live with her during her isolation in the place where she performs isolation,
  • if necessary, provide the healthcare provider with their isolation without delay,
  • monitor your health on a daily basis, in particular the occurrence of clinical signs of the disease, and contact your general practitioner immediately if any of the clinical signs of the disease occur,
  • measure and record your body temperature daily,
  • immediately inform your general practitioner about a positive test result by phone, e-mail or a short text message (SMS),
  • immediately after being notified of a positive test result, notify all persons with whom it has been in close contact in the period from the two days preceding the day of sampling of the biological material for the purposes of the test.
  • when leaving the isolation site, if necessary, the upper airways must be covered by the FFP2 respirator without an exhalation valve or with a surgical drape covered and observe hand hygiene.

 The person positive for the disease may leave the place of isolation only for the necessary time associated with:

  • the necessary provision of health care to a person positive for the disease,
  • taking a sample of biological material from a person positive for the disease in connection with the diagnosis of COVID-19,
  • attending the funeral ceremony of the deceased loved one if the person in isolation has no clinical signs of illness; a person in isolation is obliged to keep a distance of at least 2 meters from other participants in the funeral ceremony, the upper respiratory tract must be covered with an FFP2 respirator without an exhalation valve or with a surgical drape covered with it and observe hand hygiene.

COVID-19 close contact person

 Epidemiological measures currently in force: Close contact is the contact of a person with a person positive for the disease, if in this contact:

  • the persons were in direct physical contact,
  • the persons are at a distance of less than 2 meters and more than 15 minutes from each other,
  • the persons have been in an indoor or otherwise enclosed space for more than 15 minutes,
  • the persons have traveled together by means of transport for more than 15 minutes, or
  • persons did not have an upper airway obstruction and a person positive for the disease coughed or otherwise spread infectious secretions,

 All persons who come into close contact with a person who later became a positive person shall be quarantined at home or in a quarantine accommodation during a period of two days prior to the date of sampling of that person’s biological material until the end of his or her isolation.

 When does the quarantine end?

  • if the quarantined person does not show any of the clinical signs of the disease and the result of the test carried out at the earliest on the 8th day after the last contact with the positive person is negative, 14 days after the last contact with the positive person,
  • if the quarantined person has not been tested and within 14 days of the last contact with a positive person, none of the clinical signs of the disease show any of the clinical signs of the disease, 14 days after the last contact with the positive person,
  • if the quarantined person develops any of the clinical signs of the disease within 14 days of the last contact with the positive person, the moment the quarantined person is assessed by his GP as capable of ending the quarantine.

 In the case of constant contact of a person with a person positive for the disease living with him in the same household, the last day of contact is considered to be:

  • if the positive person has any of the clinical signs of the disease, on the fifth day after the onset of the clinical signs of the disease-positive person,
  • if the positive person does not show any clinical signs of disease, on the fifth day after the sampling of the biological material for the purpose of the test in a person living with the positive person in the same household.
