We would like to congratulate our collegue Dr. Anna Svancarkova who has successfully passed her doctoral thesis defence on topic: Corrosion of glass and ceramic biomaterials in aqueous environments, at the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology, Slovak University of Technology, Bratislava.
In the dissertation, the influence of different aqueous media on the corrosion resistance and degradation of glass and glass-ceramic biomaterials was investigated. The first part of the work was concerned with the examination of the corrosive influence of acidic and basic solutions on lithium disilicate dental glass-ceramic. The influence of various corrosive media on corrosion resistance and the micromechanical properties of lithium disilicate dental ceramics was studied.
In the second part of the thesis, she studied the dissolution behavior of bioactive glass 45S5 as well as its doped forms in the SBF environment and in the environment simulating inflammatory processes.
