FunGlass Grand Opening Ceremony

May 24th was Funglass’ big day. A ceremony was held on the occasion of the Grand Opening of renovated premises with new scientific research infrastructure that were obtained from structural funds (CEGLASS project, 313011R453) and the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program (FunGlass project, 739566).

The ceremony was attended by people from the academic community, as well as representatives of local government and industry. Speeches were delivered by the rector of the Alexander Dubček University of Trenčín Jozef Habánik, the chairman of the self-governing region Jaroslav Baška, the Mayor of the City of Trenčín Richard Rybníček and by our partner Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini from Institute of Biomaterials University of Erlangen – Nuremberg. There were said many beautiful words and thoughts, such as creating the formula FG=GF, in full FunGlass equals Good Friends, or comparing FunGlass to a Hollywood movie and FunGlass team to an Oscar-eligible movie star.

The main speaker was the director of the center, Prof. Dušan Galusek, who introduced the journey of FunGlass from its beginnings in the basement of Prof. Liška’s house to today’s Grand Opening of newly renovated premises and modernized laboratories with exceptional equipment. At the end of his presentation, he thanked to everyone who participated on this journey in the past as well as to those who keeps the Funglass center running nowadays.

After the ribbon cutting and the festive banquet, lab tours accompanied by FunGlass researchers followed. In this way, they most clearly showed and explained in how many areas the glass and ceramic research is needed. It was a really special day for FunGlass. We all put a lot of energy and effort into it, and in addition to professionalism, we feel that we managed to create a pleasant atmosphere for the guests.
