FunGlass School Seminar: Sharing Knowledge and Innovation

On June 10-12, we could enjoy another edition of our scientific seminars, the FunGlass School. Set to Oponice, more than 80 attendees met in the premises of former renaissance mansion, nowadays, branded Chateau Appony, to share current topics and discuss challenges for the FunGlass center. These have been highlighted by center’s director, Prof. Dušan Galusek, in his opening speech, followed by presentations, given by departments of Central Laboratories and VILA.

Second day of presentations, prepared by Department of Functional Materials, was opened by engaging guest lecture “From glass scintillators to luminescent host-guest hybrid materials”, delivered by Prof. Andrea dé Camargo from University of Jena and BAM Institute, Berlin, who, later that day, enriched the program with motivating speech on women in science.

Two more guest presenters shared their insights: Jesús Purroy from Inveniam Group discussed technological transfer in practice, and Zuzana Reptová from the Slovak Centre of Scientific and Technical Information  presented key concepts for success in ERC grants on the closing day.  Their real-life experience was enlightened by presentation of Peter Hostak, head of the administration department. Together with presentations in parallel PhD sections, the program ended after 3 days and the total number of 48 lectures delivered.

Our stay included also historical library tour, which offered a number of interesting exhibits to observe and presented history of the Appony family in attractive way.
