Highlights from the November 2024 FunGlass School

Like every half year, our FunGlass School Seminar took place from November 11th to 14th, and this session was particularly special. Here’s why:

This week, we enjoyed engaging lectures from our three departments—the Department of Biomaterials, Department of Coating Processes, and Department of Glass Processing—as well as inspiring presentations by our PhD students. A highlight of the seminar was the guest presentations delivered by:

• Dr. Aaron Reupert and Dr. Franziska Scheffler from Friedrich Schiller Universität Jena, Germany
• Prof. Sener Oktik from Maltepe University, Istanbul, with a talk titled “Glass Sector and Value-Added Coatings Update”

We were also honored to welcome special guests, significant partners of the FunGlass project, including:

• Prof. Alicia Durán and Dr. Yolanda Castro from the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Madrid
• Dr. Marcela Arango and Dr. Zoya Hadzieva from the Institute of Biomaterials, University of Erlangen-Nuremberg
• Prof. Enrico Bernardo from Università degli Studi di Padova
• Prof. Aldo Bocaccini, Institute of Biomaterials, University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (joining online)

As we approach the conclusion of our project, this seminar featured a comprehensive project overview session, with insightful presentations by Dušan Galusek, Center Director, Peter Hošták, Head of Administration and Andrea Chrastinová, Project Manager.

This session was followed by meetings with the Scientific, Industrial, and International Advisory Boards on November 14th, during which our industry partners actively participated:

Amongside the busy schedule, we also enjoyed some well-deserved moments of relaxation. From nice walks in the picturesque Vršatec Mountains to cozy indoor activities at the Jasoň Hotel, the atmosphere was both productive and rejuvenating.
