FunGlass PhD students at the Summer School in Montpellier, France
The 14th Montpellier Summer School 2023 with the subtitle Glass Formation, Structure, and Properties was held from July 2 to 7. It is regular workshop organized by International Commission on Glass. Several PhD students participated for FunGlass: Muhammad Iqbal, Parisa Moghaddam, Reza Samiee, Mohammed Boujida, Sheeraz Khan, Jakub Michalík, Mina Abdolmaleki and Nariman Alipanah.
The workshop overviewed fundamental in glass science emphasising structure-property relationships, experimental techniques, material simulations and tools that probe structure. Specific propaerties and applications were discussed, for example optical behavior, transport phenomena, nucleation and crystallisation and strength. The lecturers were all world experts in their fields
Our students began the summer school by presenting their individual work, where they shared detailes about their research interests. Then they were assigned a group project, which divided them into different groups according to the topic. They had to explain the topic and make a presentation for other groups. This will help them develope the presentation ans discussing skills. Most of the time students attended lectures by various experts and people from the industry.
The opinions of the participants speak about the usefulness of the workshop:
Attended the summer school in Montpellier, France, was a delightful experience. I gained valuable knowledge about new technology and innovation in the glass industry, while connecting with like-minded individuals. It was great opportunity to learn and present my research work. Grateful for the enriching experience!
(Sheeraz Khan)
I got to know about the needed strategies and challenges in the reduction of environmental hazard related with the glass sector. Also, my presentation and teamwork skills were enhanced through the workshops. As well as I made new contacts with the researchers and PhD students working in different universities, industries around the Globe such as AGC, Scott, Knauf Insulations etc.
(Muhammad Iqbal)
The group of doctoral students who gathered there was good and friendly, there was a bit of a problem with the organization, because some lectures and projects overlapped. From a professional point of view, the summer school was useful.
